Great State Publishing // Art Director
Coordinated the bimonthly flow of art production and managed the visual appearance of “Maryland Life” magazine and the Maryland Historical Society’s quarterly newsletter, “MdHS News.” Commissioned photographers and illustrators for magazine covers, features, and departments. Strengthened brand identity by refreshing the masthead design. Created a multi-page media kit with a folder to help drive sales and raise brand awareness. Participated in editorial and sales meetings, working alongside the Production Coordinator to establish paginations reflecting advertising initiatives. Provided creative direction to interns. Members of IRMA (International Regional Magazine Association).
I had the pleasure of working with Marie on Maryland Life and a few special projects at Maryland Life. Marie has a great eye for design and knows how to make a layout, feature, magazine, look not only great but award-winningly (if it can be a hyphenated word) great. Some of my favorite covers and features came from Marie’s tenure at Maryland Life. Her ability to add just the right amount of “creative touch” (not too little, not overdone) was a consistent hallmark of her design proficiency. She is eager to listen to the client’s needs, and always works with that, going into the design. I enjoyed working with her at Maryland Life, and hope to stay connected to her as her career advances!
